Harvard Business Review Case Studies Free Download PDF: Explore Topics such as Entrepreneurship, Str

The definition of "Case Study" varies from publication to publication. The "case studies" in traditional journals and books are not necessarily the same as commercial "cases" from publishers like Harvard Business School Publishing.

The Library does NOT collect commercial cases due to licensing restrictions imposed by the publishers. Each student must pay for their own copies. To find and use these commercial cases, go to Harvard Business Publishing. By registering for a free educator account, you can create an online coursepack to provide online access to specific cases (with "up to 60% off" for students).

A small number of case studies can be found in Harvard Business Review via our Business Source Complete subscription (1922-present) or in print at Pardee Library (1990-present). To limit your search results in Business Source Complete to case studies, select "Case Study" for the Document Type. Another source for business cases is Harvard Business Review Digital Articles (2007-present). You should also select "Case Study" for the Document Type to limit search results to case studies.

Case studies used in the classroom, which we at the library call the "case study method" of educational pedagogy, usually present the case facts and, rather than provide the solution, provide alternative solutions and/or questions to lead discussion or challenge students to apply theories learned in their course. Commercial publishers often provide faculty with teaching notes and other resources to facilitate student learning. Faculty may be required to register for an account that allows them to access the publisher's website to identify and purchase cases for classroom use.

Some organizations offer "free" case studies and materials for idea generation. These sites provide varying degrees of teaching support. Faculty may need to register for access to teaching notes and materials.

Access to the Harvard Business Publishing case studies requires individual purchase of cases, including purchase of copyright permission in situations where multiple copies are desired. Harvard does not offer institutional subscriptions that permit an academic library to subscribe to these case studies.

Fintech Law: The Case Studies is designed to introduce students and professors to innovations through fourteen new case studies. Each study focuses on an actual development in technology or information processing that has posed novel legal challenges for practicing attorneys or financial regulators in recent years. We developed these case studies over the course of two years in teaching a pair of modules at Harvard Law School. Our goal was to introduce our students to the digital transformation of financial services now underway. We chose to develop a series of case studies modeled on the Harvard Business School case study method, but adapted for the teaching of law. In each case study, students are put into an institutional context that a young lawyer might face at a law firm, government agency, congressional office, or other setting in which practicing attorneys might expect to confront problems of law and policy with respect to innovations in Fintech. In each case study, students are called upon to give the kind of advice to clients required in actual practice settings.

We have also prepared a detailed Teacher's Manual with teaching notes for each of the case studies, as well as some general suggestions as to how these case studies might be incorporated into a general course on financial regulation. The notes outline the pedagogical goals of each study, suggest different ways in which each case study might be assigned to students, and summarize the issues that students might be expected to raise in responding to the questions posed in each case study. In our own use of these case studies, we have emphasized team presentations, as a number of the studies pose a number of issues and students, in our experience, enjoy the opportunity to work collaboratively on assignments of this sort. Learning how to make group presentations is also good preparation for practice.

If searching within a specific database (see "Databases with case studies" tab), the database's advanced search tool may have the option to select "Case Study" as a Document Type, which can also help narrow your results.

Many textbooks will include case studies throughout the text or as part of an appendix. Try searching for books that contain case studies by trying the following search terms in the SU Libraries Quick Search:
